Outwit: Biblical Stories of Regular People Taking Down Tyrants

In America and across the world, Christianity and other forms of religion have been co-opted to support and uphold authoritarian politics. Instead of uplifting a Christianity of unconditional love, care for the foreigner, and a Beloved Community of all people, Christianity in power has created an atmosphere of fear, uncertainty, and betterment for the few. This is disheartening for many, who use the same Bible and believe in the same God, yet come to very different conclusions about how to be a Christian.

In an upcoming online class, Outwit: Biblical Stories of Regular People Taking Down Tyrants, Dana Cassell shows that resisting tyranny has strong biblical roots. In an intimate classroom setting, Dana will introduce participants to stories of everyday people resisting tyrannical leaders, within multiple biblical contexts. Exploring both the Old and New Testament, participants will identify stories of resistance thousands of years old, and will have the opportunity to relate them to the political moment of the present day.

Come and join us, as we learn of biblical resistance to tyranny in a nation and world that needs more resistance.
